Mission and Vision Statement
Mission
To bring a message of hope to the Salvadoran people that they are not forgotten in the eyes of the world or the eyes of God, and to share their journey as a communion of prayer, dirt, sweat, blisters, laughter, and action.
Vision
To walk alongside the Salvadoran people, to learn from them, to celebrate with them, and to work with them to create a world where both young and old people on both sides of the border have the right to dream big dreams.
Goals
- To aid our sisters and brothers as they struggle to escape poverty and the world’s indifference and move into a life where they have decent shelter, steady work, healthcare, adequate nutrition, education, and all other necessities of life—including the right to dream of a better life
- To use our talents and interests—however obscure they may seem—to meet the needs stated above.
- To bear witness in the U.S. to the often overlooked needs, culture, and history of the Salvadoran people, and to tell the truth about the often troubled relationship between our two countries.
- To secure financial and material support for the programs of APRODEHNI, to ensure it’s vital work in some of El Salvador’s poorest communities continues.
- To give people a chance to do hands-on foreign mission and to understand that this is something, as people of God, that we are called to do.
- To tear down the artificial boundaries that separate us from the rest of the world, and to understand that calling the people of El Salvador our “brothers and sisters” is not a nice turn of phrase, but an essential message at the heart of the Gospels.
