The El Salvador Partnership is pleased to endorse and support “Blessings,” a scholarship program launched by our Salvadoran partners in APRODEHNI. The “Blessings” program targets promising children in the communities where they work, and then seeks sponsors to ensure these children get the education they need. For $1,300 a year—or roughly $3 a day—you can make an impossible dream—schooling past the 6th grade—happen for a Salvadoran child.
The $1,300 covers not only the immediate costs of schooling—such as books, notebooks, pencils, etc.—but also ensures that the child receives a nourishing breakfast and lunch, regular medical care, and the involvement of a liaison from APRODEHNI to help him or her make the most of this opportunity. Sponsors receive information about their children and regular reports on their progress.
Children can enter this program at the 6th grade level, the point at which most children leave school in El Salvador because of the increased cost. Ideally, a sponsor will remain with the same child through the rest of his/her schooling. But, sponsors can decide to stay with the program on a year-to-year basis. Scholarships are generally payable on a calendar year basis, but can be initiated at any point in the year.
